The Thaw appears to borrow a tremendous amount of its plot from The X-Files. There was a good movie here that lost its way. Go to Full Review

Martin P @endymetal 3d better than expected. gory at times See more Leland K @RT08614893 Nov 17 It's hard to relate to any character when everyone keeps making the dumbest decisions possible. See more Gabriel S @Sanarel Nov 5 With shy careers — at least considering spotlight cinema — Mark A. Lewis and Michael Lewis bring to us The Thaw, a sci-fi body horror film with critique about global warming. At the time, I think the theme was spot on, maybe too much to be truth, but, regardless, the overall premise is alright to begin with. In this film, we follow a group of teenagers, of course, as they are about to meet senior scientists in a scientific exploration field in the Artics. When they get there, everyone is missing, the place feels sort of abandomned, and, to make matters worse, a hidden horror lurks in the melting ice. Now, if you ignore pet peeves like why everyone seems so dismissive that things are clearly odd, and, instead of asking for help, they just shrug it off, you will find a solid horror experience here. The Thaw is not new on any kind (is anything, at this point, really new?), but the pacing is alright and the situation just gets worse and worse fast to the point where you just want to know what will happen. Well, you sort of know because you get a hint in the opening scene of the film, so, in truth form, you are really wishful to understand _how_ things will work out. One thing I can't really stand for is how things escalated to this level. The final revelation, although expected, just puts a huge _why_ into the lens of plotline, why escalate to this level? But OK, I guess — we need to remember that, in the end, this movie is pretty much just screaming _global warming is real, folks! Don't ignore it!_ Yeah, yeah, we know… But in 2009, did they, though? The Thaw is alright, a nice casual watch for horror fans. And, considering its 13 nominations, you might even see it appear on lists about sci-fi movies to watch. Nota: 5 See more David W @Sternhammer Oct 5 Politics aside, not bad, not great. Made me nostalgic for film makers like John Carpenter who really knew how to make an Arctic horror movie though. See more Hayleigh P. @haytay.shows22 Jul 21 Actually wasn’t terrible. Makes me think though… The worlds trying to bring back the wooly mammoth AND the dire wolf.. hm, maybe it’s a sign that maybe we SHOULDNT be doing that..? But the guy had them in his d and he was the one trying to control everyone..? 🤦🏻‍♀️ The ending was messed up though. The dad literally tried to kill her AND infect the entire world. Wtf. And the guy who was with her through it all had to die? Why couldn’t they get out together?? They both worked so hard and had eachother.. And why did the doggy at the end have to eat an infected bird? How did it spread though..? 😭. See more Read all reviews
