What to Know

Critics Consensus

Injecting a heavy dose of hormones and humor into the Star Trek universe, Starfleet Academy marks a refreshing tonal shift that proves this franchise still has plenty of new thematic territory to explore.

The sets are brighter, the dialogue is sharper, with more expletives than expected from the elders as well as the kids, and the character development is strong across the board. Go to Full Review

“Starfleet Academy” is not a particularly serious story... When the show wants to be funny, though, it is. Go to Full Review

A promising collection of characters and storylines just setting the table for future achievement, not quite ready to prove its value beyond the legends of Kirk and Spock. Go to Full Review

The elements are there, but the writing falters and fails to solidify the concept, dragging down a series that, at least in its early stages, doesn't know what story to tell or how to tell it. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Are the costumes and aliens sometimes way ridiculous? Absolutely. Does it have enough heart to sustain us another 50 years? You know it does. I loved this show. I had so much fun watching it. Go to Full Review

Brian G @BrianG80 16h It's not Star Trek. It's some teen drama with modern slang, sarcasm, and sensibilities with the trek ip stapled on. These are the best the federation have to offer? Get outta here with that nonsense. See more Gavin P @Gavin123 17h Starfleet Academy is what happens when glitter, rainbows, and AI-generated one-liners are mistaken for storytelling. Nothing sticks, nothing resonates, and nothing feels real. See more Zack W. @ZackWald729 19h I gave this an honest chance I tried to watch five episodes but after this 5th episode of how they completely bastardized the DS9 Cisco Arc just leaves it sick to my stomach. I don't know what this is but this doesn't feel like Star Trek. This feels like something foreign. I just can't even believe that this would even come to Paramount. This should have been killed on arrival. See more Szymon C 21h What in the name of what is holy is this? Who is this for? See more Mars L @Mars-El 23h Scotty! Beam me up!!! See more Phil A @SodaCityGM 1d I am not sure why there is so much negative backlash about this show. Is it TOS or TNG? No. Is it more diverse than any other series? Without a doubt. Holly Hunter is fabulous as a reluctant leader who is fairly chill about everything. The show is serious and fun and a joy to just sit back and watch. Are there plot holes? Sure. But no more than TOS or any other series. I'd say give it a chance and you might find yourself enjoying it. See more Read all reviews
