In 1977 Moscow, two "PONIES" ("persons of no interest" in intelligence speak) work‬‭ anonymously as secretaries in the American Embassy. That is, until their husbands die under‬‭ mysterious circumstances in the Soviet Union, and they are thrust into the CIA. Bea Grant is‬‭ sharp, over-educated and fluent in Russian -- a child of Russian immigrants, trying to make‬‭ sense of a life that hasn't turned out the way she expected. Twila Hasbeck is a small-town‬‭ firecracker: abrasive, bold and more fearless than she should be. Thrown together by grief and‬‭ circumstance, the two dig into the vast conspiracy their husbands were killed for.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

As much a buddy adventure as it is an espionage caper, Ponies' likable trot of a story gradually achieves full gallop thanks to Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson's tag-team charisma.

Overall I really loved this show, not only for the great queer parts but also because it told the story of two women proving themselves. Go to Full Review

Fogel, who also co-wrote “Booksmart,” is a master spinner of female friendship, and Clarke and Richardson make it impossible not to instantly recognize, and connect with, Bea and Twila. Go to Full Review

The platonic chemistry between Clarke and Richardson is the glue that binds the whole enterprise together. Go to Full Review

...the best thing about 'Ponies' is that it understands that espionage is, at its core, a grand performance. From this arise the conflicts and, also, the humor that elevates it. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

With a pair of leads that share fizzy chemistry and a neat premise that lands them both in Cold War-era Moscow doing some highly dangerous spy work, this period piece is lots of fun. Go to Full Review

Lolendangla L @Lolen 7h It was worth watching.... Binge watch all the episodes. Season 2 is a must!!!! See more Paul C @paulcarless 1d I thought the first episode was a bit a slow but it just got better and better. Brilliant costume design, spot on music and 70s feel. Some really well placed humour and a brilliant cast. Haven't enjoyed a show this much in ages. See more Joe A. @wcjoey43 1d Started out so good. The show falls apart with “b” cast and corny unbelievable story line. I won’t be watching season 2 and sorry I stuck out season 1 See more Stephen C @bob25009 2d 8 successful episodes. See more A S @Waaromzomoeilijk 3d I don't understand why they turned this serie into a comedy? I think a drama would have been beter, a thriller or a action serie. But overall this serie is well made and well acted by the actors, my compliments. See more Brian F @Perusal 3d Best series I have seen in years. Still in this modern age, not many series with 2 females as the main leads and these two are great in this show. Also, an interesting setting and a different premise than the same old US formulas for action. Great stuff. See more Read all reviews
