Perry’s performance is a spectacular piece of high-wire burlesque. There’s an extraordinary spontaneity to it. Go to Full Review

While expansively anarchic to a fault, the movie’s anger, and its pride, is convincing. Go to Full Review

There's a lot to chuckle about in this film, and even some tender moments that tug on the heartstrings, but that doesn't mean Perry won't draw the usual critiques of his work with this one. Go to Full Review

Tyler Perry's Joe's College Road Trip feels like it's trying too hard to earn that hard R rating. Go to Full Review

Somehow, the "quality" of Tyler Perry's storytelling feels even worse when a positive, meaningful message is attempted, this time through the prism of Madea-universe regular Joe, a crass, nonsensical conduit for Black History 101... Go to Full Review

Despite a more overt message than we're used to from Mr. Perry, Joe’s College Road Trip feels stuck in the same tired rhythms — recycling broad caricature, nonsensical plotting, and humor that rarely rises above offensive. Go to Full Review

Laila J @yvonne23 1h This was one of THE top 3 funniest Tyler Perry’s movies! Ironically, I also learned so much about my Black History as in the historical settings. People complained about the language but if you’ve watched other Tyler Perry’s movies, this was soooo expected of Joe lol. In all, this was a great representation of minority’s in predominantly white communities, neighborhoods, and schools who are completely segregated from their own culture. The times we are living now, I’m very proud this movie came out. Well done! See more Risharri F 3h This movie makes no sense it is just a lot of nonsense with a lot of curse words. I think Tyler Perry must have had a deal with Netflix to have so many movies and he did not want to do any more movies . So he put this hot garbage together. Definitely not his best, but it’s probably top of his worst. . See more Joy B. 4h There was no point to this movie. There are good concepts (generational differences; passing down Black history) that are lost in the foolishness of the characters. This had the potential to be a great comedy but it turned into a one-note gimmick with no logic, no depth, and no true comedy. See more K P @Koleybear6 5h I have always really loved Tyler Perry movies BUT this one is SOO racist against white people and so full of BS and leftist stereotypes not to mention the language is so bad it’s not funny.. I’m truly disappointed. The mind virus has clearly infected TP and his work. All this race verses race propaganda is old already.. See more Barcarie M @Mitchthagod 1d Tyler Perry’s Joe’s College Road Trip is a baffling, tonally confused road trip to nowhere. Operating under an R-rating that feels more like a gimmick than a creative choice, the film leans into crude, dated humor that feels like a collection of rejected skits from 2005. The "Gen-Z is soft" trope is run into the ground before the first act even ends, and the chemistry between the leads is constantly undercut by jarring shifts in atmosphere. The most egregious misstep is the mid-movie detour into Money, Mississippi; while the historical weight of the location is undeniable, shoehorning it into a film filled with massage parlor jokes feels unearned and tactless. To make matters worse, the visual effects, specifically the multi-character sequences, look inexplicably dated for a 2026 Netflix budget. Joe Simmons might be a "dying breed," but if this is the best material he has left, it’s time to pull the car over and retire the character for good. See more Tracy S. @spentracy925 2d At this point, we just need to agree that Tyler Perry is inevitable. While some low brow jokes land early, by the time the credits roll this is just another Tyler Perry movie with scenes that dont know when to end and a message that tries to be timely but gets lost in Perry's self indulgence.
