After seeing their boss with his mistress, four work friends (James Garner, Tony Randall, Howard Duff, Howard Morris) decide they should get a gentleman's pad in the city. When Fred (Garner), the only bachelor in the group, rents an apartment for their dalliances, he meets gorgeous Cathy (Kim Novak), whom he hires to be their "housekeeper." Cathy lets them all make plays for her, but has no intention of sleeping with them -- she is merely doing research for her sociology thesis.

This type of sex comedy is one that is at home in the middle of the twentieth century, and Ira Wallach's script provides a savvy, but comedic insight into a number of the cultural struggles of this often considered pristine, whitewashed part of history.

Very cute, light-hearted movie, especially for the time. James Garner was never appreciated as an actor cause he’s a natural (like Burt Reynolds).

I wound up really liking this movie. The dated and stylish sets were so much fun to see, and I thought it was funny. The wives (and blonde) were portrayed more favorably than women on film are shown today. They were smart and committed to their families. I especially liked the reference to the Kennedys. I'm sure it was a fashionable movie for its day. I liked Kim Novak--She was funny, and her slouchy sweaters were so timely!
