Critics Consensus

Cozy as an undemanding beach reach and just as slight, this starry murder mystery leverages its terrific troupe of actors to nostalgic effect.

There’s plenty of money on screen in the handsome production design, but something meagre and perfunctory about the storytelling. Go to Full Review

There is some shock value, but the film goes too far in evading the truth; it nearly forgets to establish an emotional tether between the audience and its suspects. Go to Full Review

Sometimes all you need is a nice, safe, and utterly pleasant piece of cinematic diversion that doesn’t insult your intelligence and is made with sturdy, workmanlike competence. Go to Full Review

Although the screenwriters try to inject some humour, style and swagger into the story, the presence of veteran Hollywood director Chris Columbus at the helm only confirms a sense of franchise-building, rather than delivering something truly special. Go to Full Review

It was crap! … I love an anti-developer narrative, but it was so insubstantial. … I felt embarrassed for these actors, the way they were capering. There are so many good examples of this kind of thing done so much better; just watch one of them instead. Go to Full Review

The mystery, in the first of what will likely be a series of films, isn’t really that interesting. But it draws in fine stage-and-screen actors like David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, Naomie Ackie and Daniel Mays. Go to Full Review

Ray B @RT68327925 3h Top cast, well acted and worth a watch, great who done it ! See more Patricia L @palandsley 3d Stellar cast of characters whose historic performances together have graced the screen in such great moments of outstanding performance ensembles & minuettes, including the following: LONG GOOD FRIDAY [1980] Helen Mirren (Victoria) Pierce Bronson (1st Irishman) Paul Freeman (Colin) MOBLAND [2023] Helen Mirren (Maeve Harrigan) Pierce Bronson (Conrad Harrigan) Geoff Bell (Richie Stevenson) THURSDAY MURDER CLUB [2025] Helen Mirren (Elizabeth Best) Pierce Bronson (Ron Richie) Geoff Bell (Tony Curran) Paul Freeman (John Grey) Just look into the eyes of Geoff Bell (Tony Curran) when he arrives on screen to sense the genuine joy... camp...fun... & pleasure these performances exude in every line of script... There is no expression of anything unintentional among each character brought alive via the directorial cunning of Chris Columbus who clearly knew the treasure chest of gems he was honored to present on screen together once again... Thrilling for me to watch them together again! See more Michael P @MikeP29 May 2 A solid, if not but overstuffed, murder mystery with a warm centre The acting was pretty great even if the dialogue was maybe a little too on the nose sometimes. The editing was good and the action, the little there was, was serviceable. The movie looked great and the production design was bright and colourful and the music was pretty good as well. The story was a little overstuffed and I think suffered from trying to cover too much ground or make things more complex than they needed to be but the mystery was solid enough. I wish the movie centred a little more on the notions of community and what it's like to be older and how people count you out. As an overall movie experience it was solid. I'm a sucker for a murder mystery and this one was good enough that we had to pause a couple times to exchange theories which is a good sign. There is so much more depth to the books. Just read them instead. See more Stephen D @RT24891997 Apr 17 Really good until they revealed the murderer. The denouement is disappointing.
