Romas M @Romas 3d Greetings from Lithuania. I've watched this movie originally in 2000 when it came out on DVD. The second rewatch was only in 2026 when picked up Blu Ray by 88 films. I really enjoy this movie due to excellent performances by Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo - especially by Rene - she was amazing in this movie. Directing by John McTiernan was very good in here - at running time 1 h 48 min this movie never draggs and is involving and entertaining throughout. Overall, The Thomas Crown Affair (1999 version) is a fun, entertaining, well paced, superbly acted charming heist film with romance. Though when comparing them, Entrapment is more focused on the heists whilst The Thomas Crown Affair places heavier emphasis on the romance. Yes, this is a remake but I doubt the timing was coincidental. Anyway, this is a good film with a riveting cat-&-mouse dynamic between a suave Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo, stylish directing from John McTiernan and a smart script with fun dialogue exchanges. I did like the scenes with Thomas' psychiatrist quite a bit, even without knowing the context behind Faye Dunaway's casting until after the fact. Overall, a fun take on the genre with Brosnan at the top of his game and possibly encouraging another studio to greenlight their own heist remake: Ocean's 11. Probably unfair to make comparisons due to their differing approaches to the genre, but I wouldn’t rule out the idea that this film proved that these flicks were still financially viable. The outdoor scene in the Caribbean is beautiful, the art is amazing, but the script is poorly written. The style, the score, the tension and the cat and mouse play is just outstanding. Russo is a little wooden (still good), and Leary is well cast, but Brosnan absolutely chews up every scene he is in.
