Stephen Chbosky tells a coming of age story shaped by trauma, friendship and the painful belief that people often accept the love they think they deserve. Logan Lerman gives Charlie a fragile emotional honesty, portraying not only shyness, but the weight of wounds he cannot fully name. Emma Watson and Ezra Miller help turn the film into a story about connection, chosen family and the possibility of being truly seen. The film is painful, but not hopeless. Its beauty lies in how it treats survival as something quiet and human. See more jane S. @puppyopinions May 11 if you’re looking for a movie with an interesting plot, characters and dialogue, then keep looking. i spent the entire movie waiting for something-ANYTHING to happen. and major spoiler warning: the plot twist is that he got molested. but it doesn’t really make anything click into place- they don’t even have him unknowingly act like a victim throughout the movie. it feels so random- like… okay, he got molested. now what? as someone who has experienced what he has experienced, it felt very hollow. it didn’t feel like a, “ohhh, he was molested. that’s why he’s been acting that way!” moment. it felt more like a, “okay? so, he got molested as a kid. what does that have to do with anything?” like… there was no correlation between him getting molested and everything that he had been doing. it was so random and didn’t add anything to the story. conclusion; this was the most boring movie that i’ve watched in my entire life— i just kept waiting for it to get good and it never did.
