The girl breaks the rules when she meets a boy in a nearby village, provoking these supernatural entities. "The Lodgers" is a gothic story built in a unique set (the famous Loftus Hall). But the plot lacks on substance as its horror layer always plays on the safe side by delivering the usual jump scares. However, there really isn't a lot to the film. It is leisurely in its pace, and sets up for a nice climax. Unfortunately, I found the climax underwhelming. While the plot is basically a horror story. There really isn't a lot of horror or scares. I also found the source of the haunting/horror to be kind of bazaar and certainly unique. See more 07/25/2020 This was a very strange kind of olden-days movie that just dropped the viewer right in the middle of the plot with no explanation. There were creepy whispers, but they were difficult to hear. This was a very strange curse to hold the entire supernatural plot. See more 03/22/2020 The Lodgers, isn't particularly exciting but it is very intriguing. The whole story line is slightly more weird than wonderful which certainly gives it a lot more flavour. It can be quite slow but if this type of thing (psychological/ paranormal horror) is something that interests you then it will most likely hold your interest.
