This movie is 100x better than the slop getting pumped out on steaming platforms every week. It’s a tight script, it’s paced well, it has some good laughs, a couple twists and a heartwarming message. It's a comedy based around a young couple where the husband is forced to come to terms with his wife's ex lover Chip. Although fairly lightweight, the story moves on at pace, and the film has lots of pleasant day time scenes in nice locations which make it look good on screen. The characters are interesting too, and the antics which ensue are funny without being too extreme. I found the portrayal of the ad agency work environment very amusing, amidst the other comedy elements which mostly work well. It's probably not going to win awards, but it's a nice well made film to spend 90 minutes or so with, which I am happy to recommend. I’m honestly surprised The Ex doesn’t have a higher rating! If you’re looking for a fun, lighthearted comedy with sharp workplace humor and great performances, this movie delivers. Zach Braff and Amanda Peet have strong chemistry, and Jason Bateman absolutely steals the show as the hilariously manipulative co-worker. Sure, it’s not a groundbreaking comedy, but not every movie has to be! If you enjoy films like Dodgeball or Office Space, you’ll appreciate the awkward humor and absurd situations.
