From humble origins as a London fringe theater play to its meteoric rise, fall and resurrection as the biggest cult film of all time, this is the definitive story of the Rocky Horror Show. With intimate access to its creator Richard O'Brien and other major players such as Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon and Lou Adler, the documentary explores what makes the play and film so singular: Its groundbreaking and transgressive themes, iconic performances and epic songs that took over popular culture. The cult phenomenon that sprung around it is unparalleled, and created not only the midnight screenings which continue to this day, but also a safe haven for those who ever felt different or marginalized.

It got its arms around a lot in a very affectionate way. Go to Full Review

On the surface, it’s a straightforward history of the show’s growth spurts on the way to becoming a cultural juggernaut. "Strange Journey" charmingly recounts how it emerged. Go to Full Review

The opportunity here is so unique and perhaps Linus O’Brien could have done a little bit more with it... But this is a tidy and sincerely admiring overview. Go to Full Review

It’s a step to the left from what I would have preferred, but it embraces enough science non-fiction that, Dammit, Janet, I’d tell any fan to go up to the lab, and see strange journey of the greatest midnight movie ever. Go to Full Review

Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror understands the source material, the people who made it, and the people it continues to inspire today. It holds everything in its heart as it digs into the scrappy spirit that has given so many generations hope. Go to Full Review

EZDL Apr 29 FANTASTIC! So glad we were able to get to the theatre to see this film. So much fabulous history and footage from this shows origin. But most of all a fantastic theme and discussion with Richard O'Brien (and many others) regarding this show's incredible power to unite people and encourage the completely normal "abnormal" souls in our world. Loved learning Richard O'Brien's fabulous story and now love this show even more than before. Don't dream it, Be It! See more Henry Apr 25 A truly touching and insightful look into the history and impact of Rocky Horror. Even for a die hard Rocky fan I learned new things about Richard O'Brien and the creation of Rocky horror, and left feeling so much more connected to the film. Beautifully done See more Armando Feb 1 Great documentary. It had a lot of backstory that I had no idea about. See more Michele Oct 27 I didn't get to see strange journey. I went to the quad to see this and found out it was not playing at 9:45. It was playing 7:15. So I missed it. And it was never updated. Not sure where the communication broke down. I never got to see this documentary. See more Alissa Oct 10 Really answered a lot of questions Other than Meatloaf (RIP), nice to see original cast and production staff! See more Stephen Oct 2 Even if one is not particularly familiar with the film and its history, this a great introduction and a very funny, even quite touching heartfelt love letter to the film by its creator(s), fans and performers in the original show and film. For the long-time fans, it's beyond incredible. See more Read all reviews
