Andrew R @RT39097518 Mar 13 An incredibly polarizing film. You either LOVE it or HATE, you either get it or you don't, there's no in betweens as it's pretty much split 50/50 tomatoes score shows. Personally I am in the "LOVE IT" category. I'm actually surprised by it's tomato score. I thought it was genius. Genius in the way legendary comedian Andy Kaufman was, genius in the way The Blair Witch Project fooled so many people. If Andy Kaufman and The Blair Witch Project had a baby, I'm Still Here would be the result. I didn't understand why it was so polarizing, it's like people were angry it WASN'T real.... which is a bit disturbing, or audiences were offended that it WAS real and shamed everyone involved for taking advantage of and profiting off of a man clearly falling apart before audiences eyes. And THAT is part of the true genius of I'm Still Here as well. That was part of the point and people fell for it and didn't even realize it! There are many moments when there's a question on who's "in" or not, and if it's even a joke at all. There are funny moments throughout. Nevertheless it's kind of a boring watch, it feels like nothing really happens and it ends. I wouldn't want to watch it again, but as a sort of committed and experimental satire project it's somewhat interesting and entertaining. Phoenix's misdirecting endeavor, which some argued being a performative stunt, may have been reviewed as mixed albeit initial compel but his exploitive journey seems to have accomplished what he wanted to venture, therefore becoming the main takeaway beneath his "comeback" or then-current status. It also could be argued that this could be considered an essential brick to his stardom. (B-) See more Jon W @Watchdown101 08/17/2023 What an interesting piece of what many call performance art. it did however fool many of us which is what they to happen. i found it to be somewhat funny and somewhat a take on what it means to be famous. many critics hated this film and for the right reason. made me think that Aflect and Phoenix could of done something else with their time and money. the film if that is what you wanna call it was worth the watch for the first time. i am a fan of Phoenix and have been for a long time, but this is not what made me become a fan of him. Aflect and Phoenix made their point with this movie. we are all obsessed with watching celebs fall apart. but maybe we shouldn't be. See more Read all reviews
