Waititi's long-in-development adaptation of the Crump's classic has a style and wit all of its own. Neill is delightfully grumpy, but it is Dennison who steals the show. The over the top buffoonery of the final chase is a bit much, though

This is one of the best movies I've actually ever seen It's funny, it's emotional, sort of dark in a comedic way And it's just absolutely everything you need in a movie.

Taika Waititi has a truly wonderful and unique sense of humour, this is my favourite of his creations and one of my favourite films of all time. For me this is the perfect recipe for a great and memorable film; quotable one liners, laugh out loud moments, moments of beauty, sadness and tenderness and gentle spirituality. A wacky and wonderful insight into the mind of a true creative. Delightful.

The on-screen relationship between Julian Dennison's and Sam Neil's characters defines this NZ production. Funny ehile touching, set amongst the very dramatic bush scenery of the North Island. Recommended for a lightweight night in.
