Do we really need another Somali pirates movie after Paul Greengrass's superb Captain Phillips? Turns out we do, and Cutter Hodierne's directorial debut Fishing Without Nets almost fits the bill.

Although the plot significantly differs from Captain Phillips, and is certainly not as compelling or suspenseful, Fishing Without Nets mirrors the American drama quite efficiently; however, it lacks in contextualisation,and oversimplifies its most important and high-potential aspect.

5/31/15 Amazon Video A Somali Captain Phillips but more intense and more frightening. An up close look at poverty, desperation, family, morality, fear, piracy and how they all come together. Amazingly well acted by Kenyan actors who keep the tenseness real and believable.

Very much enjoyed this movie in its San Francisco premiere. The audience applauded at the end, so I wasn't alone in my perspective. This was an eye-opening view into the desperation of the world of Somalia.
