What to Know

Critics Consensus

Didn't Die mixes lo-fi visuals, humor, and horror effectively, but uneven pacing and a slight premise keep its drama from fully landing.

It is a zombie movie with no zest. No thrill, no stakes, and no meaning. Go to Full Review

The look is distinctly lo-fi -- so was Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead” -- but the blend of humour and horror is high value. Go to Full Review

A midnight offering from Meera Menon that proves that a fun concept and cool inspirations do not necessarily equate to a good movie. Go to Full Review

Didn’t Die is able to scrape by a passing grade as a familial drama about grief, but ends up weighed down by its own starting concept. Go to Full Review

While Didn't Die does not eclipse the classic in any way, shape, or form, it does honor the legacy by prioritizing characters and situational horror over mutated spectacle. Go to Full Review

Surprisingly tender and heartfelt with complex characters worth caring about. An unconventional twist on the zombie film genre. Go to Full Review

Iain M @Flaneur 3d I was really blown away by this thoughtful, funny and tender movie which uses the zombie apocalypse as a Covid-metaphor and explores the coping mechanisms, transference and displacement strategies humans will employ to avoid looking at reality and screaming with horror. This is such a warm, funny slice of humanism, delightfully directed and perfectly acted by everyone. I'm not a zombie guy, and I appreciate that some of you guys are just here to see people having their faces bitten off in really disturbing splatter-vision, but for anyone who fancies something a little more subtle and magical, I can't recommend this too highly. Come for the zombies and stay for the strong character arcs and relationship dynamics that explore the heart of what truly matters—people and humanity. While it has its share of thrills, this is a character-driven film that focuses on how ordinary people adapt to their world changing. It is both humorous and poignant, and the acting is excellent. Most of the movie is filmed in black and white, which provides an eerie quality and contributes to the artistry of the amazing cinematography. Can’t wait to see more films from Director Meera Menon!
