See more Jacob B @RT89309114 Feb 16 A more poignant film than preceding, it's understandable that audiences might not be receptive towards Mad About the Boy. Having the titular character widowed js likely going to rub some the wrong way though it's Bridget's dad also dying that upset me ("y u do dis" to Jim Broadbent?") plus the humour being more downplayed. Regardless, Renee Zellweger remains as charming and rootable as ever in the title role, the film handles heavy themes respectfully, in spite of yet another love triangle, the concerns about Bridget's age and being widowed make things different this time around and it's nice to see Hugh Grant again after he remained a complete no-show in the previous film. The character certainly seems to have become a bit more humble. The womanising is still there, but old habits die hard, IG. I don't think Bridget Jones 4 is as enjoyable as the odd-numbered films but it's still better than the sometimes-outlandish second film. Truly the "Star Trek Film Series" of romcoms.
