What to Know

Critics Consensus

Equal parts bracing and sensitive in its exorcism of the taboo, Blue Film is provocative without being exploitative thanks to phenomenal performances and writer-director Elliot Tuttle's emotional frankness.

It’s a star-making performance in a brave first feature designed to provoke while it excavates taboo topics and gives us an uncensored seat to observe how trauma chews us up. Go to Full Review

Compelling performances go a long way toward making this provocative two-hander as haunting as it is disquieting. Go to Full Review

Sometimes that gaze is just discomfiting, full stop. Tuttle wants that. He has room to improve but he’s someone to watch, plumbing the hard-to-fathom. Go to Full Review

[Elliot] Tuttle doesn't want his audience to sit back and relax; rather, he challenges us to hold innocence and evil in tandem. Go to Full Review

FP 2d Provocative. Indie filmmaking at its best. See more David L @MovieFanForever1 3d Rarely has there been a more spellbinding two-character film, no matter what its provocative subject may be. Reed Birney’s heartbreaking portrayal of a man lost in his sad desires is as Oscar worthy as any this season or even century. Though young Kieron Moore makes for a fabulous adversary, it is the masterful Birney’s ability to hit so many heartstrings at once that you are compelled to watch his performance throughout. A bit of genius on display here from the respected actor’s actor. Tuttle makes the most of what could be a stiflingly small space using lyrical cinematography and smooth blocking. A tip of the cap as well to the stimulating pacing generated by its thoughtful editing. A must see despite qualms one may initially have due to the provocative nature of its subject matter. We’re all adults here, and "Blue Film" is adult as any feature could be. A+! See more Fred D. @FredDurham 4d In no way meets the hype. In spite of a well-designed conflict between the characters the film falls flat to deliver. A first-time, 23 y.o. director seeking to explore sexuality can’t be expected to deliver more than a hashtag production- simply lacks the life experience. For that matter history: Ancient Greeks, not Romans, were the practitioners of pedastry. See more Joe S. @RT88328786 5d Absolutely unnerving. The best horror movie of 2026. Trigger warning— this movie goes to the darkest corners of humanity. See more Read all reviews
