Matthew (Josh Hartnett) and Lisa (Diane Kruger) are madly in love. But one day Lisa vanishes. Simon enters an emotional tailspin and begins an obsessive quest to find her. Years later, Simon's life has stabilized, and he's in a new relationship. Then he thinks he sees Lisa in a restaurant and fixates on her all over again. He snoops around and eventually tracks down the mysterious woman from the restaurant. Her name is Alex (Rose Byrne), but she acts just like Lisa.

The four main characters are all odd, sad and lonely. No wonder they don't call each other on their cells to straighten things out -- they're all too depressed to dial.

Wicker Park is one of those maddening movies in which the characters do incredibly stupid things simply for the sake of plot contrivance, and everyone's problems would be solved if they simply picked up their cell phones.

Tortuously twisting in on itself, Wicker Park keeps you guessing as it keeps its central pair apart. But it's scuppered by a plodding obviousness that's underlined by a sledgehammer soundtrack.

I agree with some of the critics--which I hardly ever do, regarding the multiple social or communications not probable matters. However, one needs to watch Wicker Park at least a couple of times to be able to put all the pieces together (not all films should be judged at first watch [Alfred Hitchcock movies were at first overall dismissed but now he is overly hyped by critics, just but one example]). WICKER PARK IS A MUST WATCH. Fascinating film. Well covered story, even with its few shortcomings. Two thumbs way up.
