Ed B. @EdLee Jan 30 Uptown girls, while not really interesting on the surface. I found myself intrigued with the two primary actresses relationships through the film. Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning both display a serious and playful performances which is compelling. However the story was not anything special. The protagonists, so rebellious, bring a necessary charisma to the story. The length of the introduction is perfect to catch your attention. However, it often suffers from a weak script that resorts to superfluous situations for comedic effect. The ending is rather idyllic—why bring the guy back in the final scene? Nevertheless, Brittany Murphy, I don't think I could ever forget your character. Anyway, let it remain a cult film. The characters act the way they do for a reason, and once you pay attention, everything makes sense. It makes you laugh and cry at the same time. This isn’t just about a dumb blonde and a mean little girl. It’s about trauma, girlhood, and how hard the world can be. It shows how loss and pain affect the way we behave, how we shut people out when we’re tired of trusting, and how important it is to have someone who truly sees you.
