I was entertained, even if for the longest stretches I couldn’t have told you who was doing what to whom. Chalk it up as yet another twist in the tale of Matt ‘n’ Ben – two Yin/Yang talents who will be yoked together for eternity.

On paper, The Rip should have worked. Dirty cops. Stolen money. A Cuban-American city where corruption is so baked in, it comes with cafecito. That is not an invention. That is Miami. The problem is that The Rip is not actually in Miami.

"The Rip" is nothing new. That makes it sound bad, when it’s actually a very entertaining action-thriller. But the fact is that there’s nothing revolutionary or revelatory about writer/director Joe Carnahan’s latest film.

While Affleck burrows himself in the role of a blunt yet noble cop, it’s Damon who gives the best performance in the film as the Lieutenant who has to decide what to do and how to locate a snitch. They're aging like fine wine.

THE RIP develops its loosely fact-based story into a tension-filled hotbox of suspicion, corruption, and greed. This tension does perhaps sag a little during an overlong second act, and the film goes for a conventional action climax in the third, but overall The Rip delivers a smart, gritty, redemptive thriller with consistent commitment and style.

The dynamics between Affleck and Damon are the backbone of this movie. Other than this..writing is uninspired and the twists feel forced. Don't try to count the f-words. Unfortunately it's often the Same Netflix recipe. Make the first 15min entertaining and the other 90min don't really matter.

The movie stops at about the 10 minute mark and the plot stays the same for about an hour. Had a very basic twist, never gonna watch this again.
