Tasked by Senator Dianne Feinstein to uncover the truth, Jones works through millions of classified documents, slowly piecing together a disturbing history of torture, human rights violations, and misinformation. As the scope of the program becomes clearer, Jones faces relentless pushback from within the government. Agencies stonewall his efforts, politicians fear the fallout of public disclosure, and the truth threatens to destabilize powerful institutions. The film lays bare the grim reality of how difficult it is to bring truth to light, especially when national security becomes a shield used to obscure responsibility. It exposes the cruelty inflicted in the name of protection and underscores that the harshest interrogation techniques failed to produce meaningful intelligence. The narrative highlights some of America’s weakest moments and the reluctance of leaders to admit fault, even when confronted with overwhelming evidence. The acting is strong throughout, portraying both those who opposed the interrogation program and those who defended it, convinced that the ends justified the means. Adam Driver delivers an exceptional performance as Daniel Jones, capturing the determination, isolation, and moral burden of a man navigating a system built to silence him. If the film has one flaw, it’s that it jumps directly into the procedural story without much introduction to the characters, which can make the opening feel slightly chaotic. But once you settle in, the intensity takes hold, and it becomes nearly impossible to look away. It is a good enough story about some pretty dark stuff, but is weighed down by the drudgery of the day-to-day fact-finding, and information gathering.
