Greg B 1h I think A24 is becoming the best studio for films that make you think and are extremely entertaining. The Invite made me laugh out loud, cringe on some of the topics, and even teared up a bit. All the emotions you want in a film. The acting by all 4 was unbelievable! Not one to take g’ma too unless she enjoys movies with a lot of sex talk. Doesn’t need to be seen on the big screen but the perfect film to go to the movies! Seth Rogan is my new fav (mainly due to The Studio) and he’s been on a tear. I didn’t used to like him but he’s had a string of best ofs recently. And Olivia Wilde as director and star was also fantastic. Ed Norton and Penelope Cruz also great. Good chemistry. Beneath its provocative premise, it’s a thoughtful exploration of intimacy, honesty, and the emotional distance that can quietly grow between people. With only four characters and a single dinner setting, the film creates remarkable dramatic tension through sharp dialogue and layered performances. Each conversation gradually peels back the characters’ insecurities, desires, and unspoken frustrations, making the story feel surprisingly rich despite its minimal cast. One of my favorite elements is the recurring motif of windows. They beautifully symbolize relationships—you can see the other person clearly, yet still be separated by an invisible barrier. It’s a subtle but powerful metaphor that runs throughout the film. The ending also stayed with me. The line “It’s over.” carries multiple meanings, and the final shot through the window toward the music studio, where the couple plays the piano together, recalls the beginning of their relationship without offering a definitive conclusion. Rather than telling us whether they’ll stay together, the film asks a more meaningful question: after all the pretenses are stripped away, what remains between two people? It’s a film that seems to be about sex, but is really about human connection. If you enjoy dialogue-driven relationship dramas that leave you thinking long after the credits roll, The Invite is definitely worth watching. See more Read all reviews
