What to Know

Critics Consensus

Lee Daniels' foray into horror works best when it leans into his melodramatic preoccupations, but it fails to deliver the exorcism goods.

With every over-the-top line of dialogue and tone-deaf gamble, The Deliverance inches closer to becoming a parody of itself. Go to Full Review

Daniels isn't always able to find a steady equilibrium between melodrama and drama. But his cast is compelling enough to ground even the most outlandish moments Go to Full Review

While much of the familiarity felt good, some of it felt stale. The first half was promising, and then the film became a generic demon possession film. Go to Full Review

Whether it’s the fault of how the film was pieced together or the script itself, the narrative misses quite a few beats along the way. Go to Full Review

While the film touches on compelling themes and delivers strong performances from its cast, it falls short in delivering the sustained terror necessary to elevate it into a truly memorable horror experience. Go to Full Review

Keena A 08/21/2024 I like it although it was dark & more different than anything I ever seen. See more Ryan J. @RT37910776 2d The movie is good because it's based on a demon possession. It's real, and it's supernatural warfare. It was one of the best movies I've watched in this category! I would highly recommend it to anyone who is getting closer to God. In the end, God wins. The only people who wouldn't like it are those who don't understand the supernatural and demon possession. See more MCGUCKET T @RT88823185 5d Movie starts very slow, the acting feels forced and a lot of dialogue is just time waste that just got added to fill some holes. When it finally got to the horror part it was very underwhelming and really speeded through, and the acting with the demon so on was just bad and didn’t really land and jumps cares as well just wasn’t it. Ending was totally trash. See more Michael P @TheeMichael-jai May 3 It certainly Delivers a mediocre possession along with its mediocre exorcism. See more Wouldnt you L @RT96497570 May 2 Zak Bagans documentary was better. See more Damion L. @CloudedPurpl Apr 28 I mean it was okay. It definitely was suspenseful for the whole movie with some real world family dynamics. But it felt less of a horror for most of the movie and more like a drama, and then when it finally got into the horror it wasn’t terrible but it definitely was a little silly it felt like. I couldn’t take some parts super serious. See more Read all reviews
