It’s the kind of movie you stumble upon late at night and think, “Alright, let’s see how bad this can get,” only to realize halfway through that… you’re actually kind of invested. It’s far from perfect, but it earns its place as a guilty-pleasure watch. The story follows a shy, bullied girl who’s pushed too far and ends up snapping—mixing revenge, supernatural twists, and a dose of teenage chaos. Think Jennifer’s Body, but without the over-stylized, try-hard energy. The difference is that Tamara doesn’t feel like it’s trying to sell you an image; it just is what it is—a simple, dark revenge story with a supernatural edge. Where Jennifer’s Body leaned heavily on Megan Fox’s sex appeal to carry the film, Tamara manages to make the same concept feel more natural and grounded. The actress playing Tamara (Jenna Dewan, before she was well-known) actually sells the character. She’s believable, sympathetic, and intense without ever crossing into parody. That lack of star power works in the film’s favor—it lets the character breathe, rather than feeling like a performance built around a marketing gimmick. Sure, the screenplay has its flaws. There are pacing issues, some clunky dialogue, and a few moments that feel more like a high-school theater script than a professional screenplay. But even with its faults, Tamara keeps you watching. The tone walks a fine line between campy and serious, and somehow it works. The tension builds just enough to keep you curious, and the kills, while not groundbreaking, are executed with a certain eerie flair. What Tamara lacks in scares, it makes up for in atmosphere. It’s not a terrifying film by any means—you won’t lose sleep over it—but it’s got that eerie, small-town horror vibe that’s oddly comforting for fans of mid-2000s horror. The cinematography and effects aren’t anything special, but they get the job done, keeping the story on track without overstaying their welcome. At the end of the day, Tamara is a middle-of-the-road horror film that actually does more right than wrong. It’s not going to change your life, but it’s an enjoyable enough watch if you’re in the mood for something spooky without getting too heavy. The bullies who are supposed to be in high school and are all like 40 years old, to the soundtrack and dialogue are all melodramatic and over the top, it’s great if you like schlock like me! Cependant il faut malgré tout souligner les scènes de combats qui ne sont pas mauvaises et la nouvelle Tamara qui est quand même un peu charismatique.
