nick S @Nick_S Jun 21 Russell Crowe put in a solid performance as the protagonist but Karen Gillan had a bit of an off day with her acting. It really threw me out of the movie. The story setup made guessing the ending a bit too easy. That would not have been so bad but in the last half hour the story was a dog's breakfast. The confrontation should have been the last scene. Even the title gives the plot away to a certain degree. It would have been better had they worked harder to mislead the audience, especially after well known movies like Fight Club, Memento, and Shutter Island. The murder "suspect" changes several times and the circumstances aren't contrived so the movie remains interesting and captivating. Russell Crowe acts as the befuddled, post traumatic, former policeman. He is honestly looking for the answer, wherever that may lead. His personal trauma leads him to revisit an old murder case. Along the way he meets some well crafted characters who may or may not be his answer. Supporting cast are very good and credible. My question after watching this is "Who is the guilty party" ? If you like noir murder mysteries, this is the movie for you. Sleeping Dogs with Russell Crowe and Tommy Flanagan is an outstanding classic neo-noir murder mystery. It's excellently done — the script is amazing, great cinematography, the pacing is excellent, and the dialogue keeps you on the edge of your seat. The mystery deepens as it unfolds, taking several surprising turns and leaving you guessing right up until the very last moment. It reminds me of Memento, but is better and more seamless. I know it's been a few years since Russell Crowe was in his glory days, but I think this is one of his best movies. It's a classic whodunit, and I recommend it to everyone. See more Read all reviews
