Maybe more filler, but it was easier to follow. Really liked the cat and mouse chase especially towards the end. Fantastic sense of tension that reminded me of parts of the first movie. By the fifth installment, you would expect the series to feel repetitive, but this movie still finds ways to keep the larger story moving forward. That is what makes it work. The biggest strength here is the screenwriting. Instead of just throwing out random traps and gore, the film continues building the bigger picture and pushing the narrative of what is really happening behind the scenes. It keeps that long, connected storyline alive in a way that is actually very clever. Of course, the movie still delivers the gruesome and brutal tactics the franchise is known for, but it also gives enough story to keep you invested. Overall, it may not be one of the best in the series, but it is still a solid chapter that proves this franchise had more thought behind it than people often give it credit for.
