Haarla captures slipping sanity well, and Nightborn is refreshingly resistant to elevated horror’s insistence on metaphor. But it’s otherwise unremarkable. Go to Full Review

Nightborn is ultimately less interested in framing motherhood as a horror movie than it is in exploring why people refuse to see it that way. Which isn’t to suggest that it’s not interested in framing motherhood as a horror movie. Go to Full Review

So while built on an excellent screenplay and grounded center, [it] falls victim to fatiguing its elements through overzealous, flustered execution. Go to Full Review

Bergholm's sophomore feature, however, straddles the line between these tonal extremes so awkwardly that it generates tension out of neither — let alone any tension at all. Go to Full Review

Seidi Haarla is a true powerhouse as she becomes virtually feral as a mother who is convinced she knows best. Not least, once she recognizes what the child needs and who he really is. And no, this isn’t some... Go to Full Review

A meditation on maternal love in its rawest, ugliest, most sacred form — and it's one of the most quietly devastating horror films you will see this year. Go to Full Review

Lita S @RT05314939 2h I love a good horror and Rupert. However this was absolutely rubbish. Nobody listening to the mum about how odd the baby is, baby crying throughout good majority of the film. Rubbish storyline a lot of subtitles as movie not all in English. Rupert is better than this, See more Joanna W @JoannaW 20h Difficult watch at times because of insufferable crying that was way too much. I think I would have preferred if mother turned out to be in psychosis. See more Nicholas S @RT51997873 1d A very interesting movie and worth the watch See more Jana D @RT72346437 1d This director has courage. A good chunk of this film is dedicated to the gaslighting experience of giving birth in a culture that tells you that you don’t matter anymore. Your entire identity is now as a mother and sometimes wife and you are to love it. Many cultures have women with an expectation to raise the child with little help. I saw a male critic post about how irritating the baby crying in nearly all scenes was and he couldn’t tolerate it. The baby constantly crying is to create an irritating, visceral reaction which the mother is feeling every second of. Most parents can relate. All the above is horror enough. The loss of identity, your body is not your own, lack of sleep, ongoing physical and psychological pain and everyone telling you what a wonderful experience it is. But her baby IS a monster and no one believes her and calls her crazy. This movie mirrors culture and adds fokelore horror. See more D. B @RT17783250 1d Turned it off after 12 minutes. The baby crying through EVERY scene made the dialogue impossible to hear. And a good percent of the dialogue wasn't even in English. See more J D @JayDog123 3d Evil baby cries through 90 % movie which gets irritating very quickly. Rubert Grint revisits replaying his Sevant character. Ending predictable. Whole movie gave me a headache. See more Read all reviews
