Too bad the story sags, although the padding is a riot. Go to Full Review

Manborg's success in this regard has a lot to do with actor Matthew Kennedy, who plays the super cyborg with a kind of dorky pathos that's ripped straight out of a more innocent time in our pop culture history. Go to Full Review

What Manborg lacks in budget, it makes up for in heart and soul. Go to Full Review

An acid-washed cornucopia of action and laughs. Short, silly, and superbly crafted with next to no money, Manborg is a delight. Go to Full Review

A loving, if one-note, recreation of a very particular kind of bygone cinematic experience. Go to Full Review

Manborg works first and foremost by being genuinely, legitimately funny. Go to Full Review

xpig332 B Oct 15 Shaw Brothers blended with Tron topped with plenty of 1980’s cheese, I couldn’t stop watching. It’s not “so bad it’s good,” it’s simultaneously terrible and great! See more thom g 12/23/2022 Manborg is definitely a very daring, original and completely assumed weird movie! If, after a few minutes, you feel you can handle the kind of craziness the film offers, you will be greatly rewarded, as it is a pure success in this genre (even, in part, with some warm heart behind the manborgness). See more Kevin C 09/02/2022 The overacting and campy dialogue and effects make this movie exactly what it sets out to be a cult favourite. Half man half cyborg does battle alongside a group of people being held prisoner by the evil Count Draculon. As cheesy as this is it's actually kind of fun and the runtime doesn't overstay it's welcome. See more 04/30/2022 From the maker of 'Psycho Goreman', comes his early, less polished attempt at parodying 80's genre mash-ups and 90's cartoons, that still hits the mark of enjoyability. See more brian v @bonvivant63 03/16/2021 Purposely bad and low budget and it is executed very well See more 10/29/2017 The premise is better than the final product of this homage to cheesy 1980s sci-fi films like "Eliminators" "Mandroid," or "R.O.T.O.R." Half man. Half cyborg. All hero. Manborg was a regular solder in humanity's war against Hell, but after he's killed, he awakens as a cyborg fighting in a gladiatorial arena alongside a martial arts master, a buxom blue-haired blade master, and an Australian renegade. Together they must defeat Count Draculon. That's were the film falters. The story isn't very good and the characters are paper thin. Although the types of film "Manborg" is spoofing were not much better in those departments, that's not an excuse for this film to be as bad in those areas as well. Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez did the same thing much better with their Grindhouse double feature, "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof," where they not only made an effective recreation of exploitation films of the 70s and 80s, but were also able to make them exciting and interesting. "Manborg" does do a nice job of recreating the music for these types of films, the cheesy make up, as well as the many tropes of films of this era (dubbed Asian actors, heavy synthesizer, low budget make-up, and the need to always thrown in an Australian). I'll also give the film points for making the opening appear to be a VHS tape by starting off with, "Stay turned after the feature for upcoming titles from Astron-6" which ends up being a very funny fake trailer for "Bio-Cop," which is a mash-up of "Maniac Cop" and "The Toxic Avenger." "Manborg" itself really should have been a 3-minute tailer, which would have tapped the same nostalgia and ended while the getting was good. Do yourself a favor and just watch the "Manborg" trailer without watching the entire film. You'll enjoy that a lot more. That or watch "Kung Fury," which mined similar material, but did it much better. Or maybe the excellent "Turbo Kid," thought that's more of a homage than a tongue-in-cheek parody.
