Master criminal Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro) is trying to control the rogue actions of one of his men, while also planning one last big heist before retiring. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Hanna (Al Pacino) attempts to track down McCauley as he deals with the chaos in his own life, including the infidelity of his wife (Diane Venora) and the mental health of his stepdaughter (Natalie Portman). McCauley and Hanna discover a mutual respect, even as they try to thwart each other's plans.

Two screen icons who have mutual respect for each other in spades, in this edge of the seat movie, go head to head. De Niro as the master heister and Pacino as the determined cop. Both have personal issues to deal with as well, which only adds to the minute by minute high octane drama of it all. And when you put De Niro and Pacino together, it's pure nitro-glycerin to the very last frame of this all time greatest film of its genre.

This is the greatest movie of all time. Anything less than 100 is sacrilegious. There should be a 3rd rating and it's based on "what the fuck it is" which is the movie being the Greatest film of All time.

SPOILER ALERT!! Great movie, I agree with all the praise, but there are two HUGE flaws that are really unnecessary. First, the shootout after the bank robbery...assault rifles firing thousands of rounds around the public including children. There would have been dozens of victims. Worse yet is the ending. The person being chased has a huge advantage. He can hide behind a barrier, wait for Al Pachino to show up, stay behind the barrier and shoot him. Al stupidly steps out into the open, making himself a sitting target, and instead of peaking around the corner and shooting him...De Niro also steps out into the open making himself an easy target also. TOTALLY unrealistic.
