andrea C @Charst May 4 Clint Eastwood all'ennesima potenza in un film potenzialmente molto vicino alla realtà di alcune zone del mondo; seppure con un contesto leggermente troppo semplificato. La sceneggiatura è buona così come la costruzione dei personaggi; senza dubbio però la parte forte è quella dei dialoghi, credibili e mai banali nonostante possano essere anticipati dallo spettatore. Il finale porta ad un climax di tensione che si risolve in pochi minuti ed in modo tanto semplice quanto potente. Peccato che alcune figure vengano lasciate un po' incompiute o eccessivamente semplificate come quasi tutti i familiari del protagonista. It is a compelling drama with a strong performance from Clint Eastwood, good character development for the main protagonists, a good mix of moments that are heartwarming, sad and even a little funny and a climax that does something different rather than the stereotypical guns-blazing you might expect. It's not a mind-blowing cinematic experience but it does have good intentions and enough memorable aspects beyond Eastwood politely asking these gentlemen to leave his domain to make it worth a watch. Still not the kind of movie I'd expect to have its own Wikipedia page focusing on the characters. *The Hmong actors' inexperience is sometimes evident, except for the sister. I liked her and her own intergenerational friendship with our politically incorrect hero. The seriousness of the movie combined with the few moments of laughter when the jokes hit provide a truly gripping story. While I can see why it is controversial, I don't think it takes away at all from the movie or its message. Please, you will never regret watching this movie. The story is somewhat predictable — a cantankerous man reluctantly befriends his immigrant neighbors and confronts local gang violence — yet Eastwood’s presence, combined with moments of sharp tension and understated action, keeps the film engaging.
