DEAD BLOOM uses horror to expose injustices, chemical, economic, and generational. A critique of capitalism's decay and how marginalized lives bear its weight first. It is both literal and allegorical: a horror about fruit that poisons, systems that exploit, and families that endure despite both.

Lexi H @LexiHenrion May 3 Don't be deterred by some silly mistakes in the opening scene ('Who eats a random wild fruit they've just stumbled upon with no questions?' and 'Decapitation shouldn't be that easy...' might cross your mind). The actors, major and minor, in this film are superb -- a tier above similar lower-budget indie films. You'll forget they're acting at all. Credit also has to go to the script for natural dialogue that feels authentic between family members and showcases dynamics effortlessly. The pacing keeps you on the edge of your seat, and dread settles into your stomach gradually. The SFX and score are both impressive, and with the exception of one ill-fitting comedic gross-out scene in the middle of the movie, this film takes itself seriously in a way that pays off. Aside from a few missteps, mostly concentrated in the opening few scenes, you'd never know Dead Bloom wasn't a blockbuster. See more Read all reviews
