Attorney Matt Murdock (Ben Affleck) is blind, but his other four senses function with superhuman sharpness. By day, Murdock represents the downtrodden. At night, he is Daredevil, a masked vigilante, a relentless avenger of justice. When Wilson Fisk (Michael Clarke Duncan) hires Bullseye (Colin Farrell) to kill Daredevil, Murdock must rely on his own senses and search out the conspirators against justice -- which may include his own girlfriend, Elektra (Jennifer Garner).

Critics Consensus

While Ben Affleck fits the role and the story is sporadically interesting, Daredevil is ultimately a dull, brooding origin story that fails to bring anything new to the genre.

Worst of all is the finale, which features a protracted duel with villain Bullseye, utilizing copious amounts of bad CG that cheapens the choreography and any potential for a satisfying demise.

Daredevil is a mediocre Marvel film that has some good ideas but never fully comes together. Ben Affleck does his best in the title role, and there are moments where the darker tone and character setup feel promising. Michael Clarke Duncan also gives the film some weight as Kingpin, and the cast is one of the movie’s stronger points. Even so, the movie feels uneven and underdeveloped. The story moves in a pretty generic way, the pacing can drag, and some of the action does not leave much impact. It tries to be brooding and serious, but it ends up feeling more flat than intense. There is potential here, but it is not used very well. Overall, Daredevil is a forgettable superhero movie that has a few solid elements but not enough to stand out. I would rate it a 4/10.
