Pre-revolutionary Cuba is the setting for this drama about British mercenary Robert Dapes (Sean Connery), who is sent to Havana in the last days of the Batista regime to train government troops. In addition to a growing sympathy for Castro's rebels and a sense that he is too late to help Batista's disintegrating army, Dapes rekindles a romance with his former lover, Alexandra (Brooke Adams), who is now married to Juan Pulido (Chris Sarandon), a callous plantation owner.

A deeply flawed movie whose... willingness to complicate the genre it appears to inhabit make it much more valuable than its original reception was willing to admit. Go to Full Review

thiago S @Thiagostone 1d Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom See more CodyZamboni Z @CodyZamboni 12/05/2024 Surprisingly good, Great sense of place, kudos to Richard Lester, He puts the viewer right in the action. You are there in 1958 Cuba, The sights, sounds, Such attention to detail of pre-revolutionary Cuba. And Brooke Adams, Wow, stunning, so pretty, See more Blu B @RT43513976 08/13/2024 Better than I expected it to be especially in the second half but it's not "Good". The cinematography isn't bad. The locations are memorable, the direction is a bit hit or miss sometimes. It can look inspired or very boring at times. It wants to epic in certain scenes but it feels instead very empty and lifeless sometimes instead with no life at times. The action scenes are pretty good actually in this when they happen especially the tank which was cool at the end. The music kind of works but just doesn't meld well together. The pacing is half decent too. This starts out very sluggish in the first half but as it goes along it starts to find its rhythm. What helps this compared to other movies that try to tie drama/romance into the fall of a government is this one has significantly more action in it than others do. It helps keep a sense of urgency that others lack. The weakest parts though are the ediitng and pacting which are just ok. This never is able to tie all the different storylines together really. It feels like stuff just happens especially in the first half. Once it starts focusing more on Connery though in the second half it does get signifcantly better. The two leads romance also is just ok and nothing special. This needed to stay focused on Connery and tie his romance with the war better and get rid of the other stuff with Elliot, Balsam, and what not. If your a die hard Connery fan than consider checking this out.
