With plenty of f and c words and drug-taking, young love between a Pakistani Muslim girl and Christian boy is once again thwarted by the outdated, barbaric beliefs of the girl’s family. I watched the film. I didn’t particularly enjoy the film. And I wasn’t surprised by the ending. It tells the story of Laila, a young British Asian woman sharing a caravan on the Yorkshire Moors with her boyfriend Aaron. The film divides its attention between them and a group of thuggish-looking men. Their actions suggest their menacing intentions: lining the boot of their car with plastic and asking locals to call them if they spot the young couple. The story plays out on the bleak Moors and in an eery, half-decayed town nearby. Against these backdrops, a more savage side of human nature surfaces, that of hunter and hunted. I was reminded of No Country for Old Men in the way silence is used to create a sense of impending doom. The story was great. The acting was excellent from every single actor involved. The emotions being conjured up by the events playing out were raw. Things were very realistic vs being outlandish in other movies just to have more action. I really enjoyed this movie.
