David B A @RT25449522 Apr 21 As others have said in other ways, this movie threads the needle of being both a psychological thriller as well as a portrayal of the behavior of the very wealthy and how it affects public and private lives. I very much enjoyed that it did not follow a predictable story line, and as a result felt closer to real life (although I have never tried to sell a company for hundreds of millions of dollars). The characters did not seem cliched, in part due to an excellent script and in part due to fine acting by Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, and the rest of the cast as well. I love the originality of this movie in what could have been a very predictable story of disasters. Not to give away story details, I will stop here! See more Aaron A @RT37103528 Apr 16 Looking at this movie as a documentary - Absolutely fantastic movie. Everything. The delaying of a deal to gain a better financial position. The "What's an Applebee's?". Implied money laundering operation in banking and investment. The shenanigans to delay a possible conviction, and to get one. Both the position of African Americans in the justice systems as well as the movie industry (the movie took an abrupt detour from the usual tropes). All great. All a reflection of every day reality -- how business deals go, how justice goes. This is an excellent contemporary social piece reflecting the reality of business, race and class as well as a good movie for its unusual handling of what could have been cynical tropes. The entire storyline felt hollow, overly focused on greed, and failed to deliver any meaningful resolution. The narrative keeps you on edge but ultimately leads nowhere. We’re expected to sympathize with a billionaire who never truly cared about his family until it threatened his public image. To make matters worse, the film portrays law enforcement in a negative light and glorifies moral compromises, suggesting that preserving wealth and reputation outweighs doing what’s right.
