The premise—a high school student trying to complete a list of outrageous challenges in a single night—sounds like it could lead to clever, chaotic humor. In practice, though, the execution struggles to deliver. The film often tips into awkward, goofy territory instead of genuinely funny or inventive comedy, leaving many of the antics feeling flat or predictable. The writing is uneven at best. While some moments land with mild charm, a lot of the so-called “dirty deeds” feel uninspired and repetitive. The humor relies heavily on slapstick and lowbrow jokes, and the script rarely surprises the audience with wit or creativity. There’s a roadmap for the story, but it’s executed without much flair, making the journey through the film feel like a series of missed opportunities rather than a cohesive comedy adventure. The cast tries their best with what they’re given. Lacey Chabert shines in her role, showing the charisma and comedic timing that would help her pivot into a successful Hallmark career later on. The rest of the cast fits the early-2000s teen movie vibe well enough, but none of the performances manage to elevate the material beyond mediocrity. The characters are mostly archetypal, and there’s very little depth or development to make the audience truly care about them. Pacing is inconsistent, with some scenes dragging unnecessarily while others feel rushed through the checklist of challenges. The film occasionally flirts with charm, and a few comedic beats do land, but they’re not enough to offset the overall blandness of the screenplay. Dirty Deeds is watchable in the sense that it isn’t actively painful to sit through, but it’s forgettable and lacks the energy or cleverness to make it stand out. It’s the kind of teen comedy that works best as background entertainment rather than something you’ll actively seek out again. The performances in this movie are horrendous. The directing by David Kendall is not good at all. The screenplay is pathetic. And the score is okay.
